SUMMARY
Species with profemur posteriorly near apex with two or three long black pili with curled apices; these pili contrasting with preceding shorter dense pale pile; protibia posteriorly with dense fine pale pili some longer than tibial diameter; face about five-eighths as wide as head; wing with cell c bare at least at base; cell bm bare except at apex; 2nd tergum with pair of orange maculae; terga 3 and 4 with orange maculae widely separated from lateral margins (Vockeroth 1992).
Species of the subgenus Pachysphyria have apical half or more of male profemur with a row of stiff, straight black setae postero-laterally, with the most apical seta longer and strongly curled at its tip (Speight 2010).
