Xanthandrus (Androsyrphus) setifemoratus Thompson
Nomenclature
-
Genus: XanthandrusSubgenus: Xanthandrus (Androsyrphus)
Species:
Xanthandrus (Androsyrphus) setifemoratus Thompson
SUMMARY
Androsyrphus is readily distinguished from all other Syrphinae except Salpingogaster by the presence of apicoventral spinose setae on the meso- and metafemora. Salpingogaster can hardly be confused with Androsyrphus because of its peculiar wing venation, petiolate abdomen, slender femora, etc. Due to the presence of these "spines" some dipterists would probably accord full generic rank to Androsyrphus. Androsyrphus shares a unique facial shape with Xanthandrus (Thompson 1981).
